Team Away Day
December 2008 saw the inaugural Ardent alternative triathlon. The events; quad biking, archery and clay pigeon shooting, were fought out between two teams; A and B. There could be only one winner...
The day quickly lost all sibilance of friendly team building and with a surging undercurrent of over-competitiveness and machismo, the games began.
Up first was clay pigeon shooting. Despite the risk of firearm related injury, the competition eventually unfolded into a head to head between John and Robin. A nail biting round of sudden death fortunately didn´t end with one, but saw Robin leave victorious. Round one to Team A.
And so to quad biking. Penalty time was added for hitting cones and reckless driving, with the fastest team overall, winning. Never has the need for speed cameras been more apparent. The muddy melee saw Team B take the gold, and congratulations to our very own Stig; Colin (albeit a few lbs heavier), for being the fastest individual.
Finally then, and with the scores even, we travelled back in time for a renaissance fayre archery shoot-out. The battle gave rise to another head to head, this time between Simon and James. As if fighting for a large purse of florins, verily it was the last arrow that pierced the balloon to give Simon and thusly Team A the crown. Kevin Costner would´ve been proud.
With a final score of 2-1, Team A won the bragging rights for 2009!
