Company History

Founded in 1992, Ardent is the market leader in Land Assembly & Compulsory Purchase operating throughout the UK. Ardent delivers comprehensive services for major projects, services include: landowner engagement, valuation, land acquisition and option agreements, land referencing, compulsory purchase and compensation. This comprehensive service minimises risks and costs for our clients.

In 1996 Ardent was appointed by Docklands Light Railway Limited (DLR) (now part of Transport for London) to undertake land assembly for the London City Airport Extension which was promoted and implemented under a Transport and Works Act Order. We have since dealt with all of DLR’s extensions and enhancements including the Woolwich Arsenal and the Stratford International Extensions.

In 2005 Ardent pioneered the use of General Vesting powers for railway schemes, a method which the industry has since widely adopted following our successful experience.

In 2008 Ardent supported the London Borough of Hackney through the promotion of the largest Compulsory Purchase Order not to require a Public Inquiry, for the first phase of regeneration at Woodberry Down.

In 2010 Ardent delivered all of the land and rights required for the construction and operation of the Emirates Air Line (formerly the London Cable Car) without compulsory powers due to programme constraints association with the 2012 London Olympics.

In 2011 Ardent was part of the team that successfully promoted the first ever successful Development Consent Order at Rookery South Resource Recovery Facility for Covanta.

In 2012 Ardent was instructed to provide a Land Agency and land referencing services for the Triton Knoll project, at the time this was due to be UK’s largest offshore wind farm. The onshore requirements included two major substations and a 60km multi cable corridor.

Ardent opened a North West office in February 2014 at the prestigious development of Wilderspool Business Park, Warrington in the White House, former home of the Greenalls family and brewery.  The CAD / GIS team works from this office alongside Chartered Surveyors, Project Managers and Land Referencers.

In 2015 Ardent was instructed to support London Resort Company Holdings to deliver the first commercial Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) application for a Development Consent Order.

Ardent opened a Leeds office in 2016 situated in the prominent location of No.1 Aire Street.  Our team there is working on, amongst other projects, the recently awarded Leeds North Section for HS2 Phase 2 scheme. We hope to open a Birmingham office in early 2018.

2017 and 2018 saw the opening of two further regional offices in Birmingham and Milton Keynes, bridging the gap between London and the northern offices in order to provide clients with a full coverage of the UK.
