Our History (and our Future)

1996

Ardent are one of the first companies to be founded as a specialist Land Assembly and Compulsory Purchase Firm, offering services to both private and public sector clients. They are appointed by Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to undertake the land assembly for the London City Airport Extension. Ardent deliver the project through a Transport and Works Act Order. This success leads to the appointment of Ardent on all DLR extensions, enhancements, and to act as the in-house property team.

2005

Ardent pioneers the use of General Vesting Declaration powers for railway schemes, a method which the industry has since widely adopted following our successful implementation.

2008

Ardent supports the London Borough of Hackney through the promotion of the largest Compulsory Purchase Order not to require a Public Inquiry, the first phase of regeneration at Woodberry Down.

2010

Ardent delivers all of the land and rights required for the construction and operation of the Emirates Air Line (formerly the London Cable Car) without compulsory powers due to programme constraints in association with the 2012 London Olympics.

2011

Ardent is part of the team that successfully promotes the first ever successful Development Consent Order (DCO) at Rookery South Resource Recovery Facility for Covanta, innovating the regeneration sector.

2012

Ardent is instructed to provide Land Agency and land referencing services for the Triton Knoll Electrical System. At the time this was due to be UK’s largest offshore wind farm. The onshore requirements include two major substations and a 60km underground cable corridor.

2014

Ardent opens a North West office in Warrington which houses the specialist CAD & GIS teams. Working alongside them are Chartered Surveyors, Project Managers and Land Referencers.

2016

Ardent opens a Leeds office after winning the tender to provide land assembly services for the HS2 Phase 2B section of the HS2 scheme. Within 3 years the Leeds office has grown from an initial 6 members of staff working on HS2, to house a multi-disciplinary team of over 20 highly skilled employees who provide services across a range of projects.

2018

Ardent opens a Birmingham Office to support the company’s continued growth, HS2 MML, and the development of Ardent’s presence in the Midlands.

2018

With instruction to support Vattenfall in the development of three offshore windfarms, EDF in the creation of their Sizewell C scheme, and Highways England on their OxCAM and Black Cat to Caxton Gibbett projects, Ardent opens an office in Milton Keynes; the company’s number of employees grows from 25 to 40.

2019

Ardent are the market leader in successful DCO delivery, having supported over 46 DCOs, and numerous other Compulsory Purchase orders. To support Ardent’s continued growth and to provide added clarity around the services on offer, Ardent has formed three distinct directorate services. This is to ensure the continued delivery of high quality services for clients.

2020

Since 2018 Ardent has more than doubled in size, and to date employs nearly 100 land specialists; this includes the largest team of CPO surveyors in the UK, with more than 25 located throughout 5 geographic locations in England. We are continuing to develop both our business, and the sector with the growth of our three core directorates, making us the leading team of DCO land advisers in the UK.

1992
