With the announcement of the Compulsory Purchase Association (CPA) 2021 Election results for Vice Chair and six directors, we would just like to offer our congratulations to the successful candidates, and commiserations to those others who participated in the race.  We understand the important role the CPA plays in our industry, and the significant contribution made by members of the National Committee. We are particularly pleased to be able to confirm that, Colin Cottage, who previous held a position on the National Committee between 2006 and 2018 (and was chairman for 2016-2017) has been reappointed as a director.

Since joining Ardent in 2018, Colin has grown Ardent’s Compensation Directorate from two members to a competent and ambitious team of fifteen Chartered Surveyors and graduates seeking chartered status. Colin’s drive and experience in the sector is central to our Compensation team’s successful delivery of high quality compensation services, both to claimants and a wide variety of acquiring authorities promoting nationally significant regeneration and infrastructure projects across the country.  The team’s workload includes property cost estimates, valuations for all classes of property, compensation assessment and negotiation, objection management and the provision of expert witness evidence at the Upper Tribunal.

Over three years our Compensation Directorate has now become the perfect complement to Ardent’s other land referencing, GIS, Order promotion and project management Directorates which provide a comprehensive compulsory purchase offer to our nationwide network of clients and partners.  Working as part of a cohesive multi-disciplinary teams offers not only a variety of opportunities for the Compensation team, but also increases their understanding of how the entirety of a compulsory purchase project is delivered. This enables them to gain valuable experience on a wider range of projects than most, including the East West Rail Phase 3 project where Ardent has recently been appointed the Land & Property Partner.

Despite their success, Colin and his team are not resting on their laurels.  The directorate continues to grow, and they are always on the lookout for surveyors with compulsory purchase and compensation experience to join them. If you have what you think it takes to join the team, then please view our vacancies here or contact Colin here.
